How it works
The Process
The Malta Esports Awards run on one simple idea: the community puts names forward, and the association makes sure every nomination is given a fair hearing.
- 1
Nominations Open
The Maltese public can nominate a player, team, organiser, event etc in any one of the categories that is open for nominations! The Association, and its various members may also submit preferred nominations. The more detailed the nomination, the better chances there is of it being shortlisted. More nominations does not mean a higher chance to be shortlisted - this is not a popularity contest!
- 2
Review
A Sub-Committee within the Malta Esports Association specifically set up to vet the applications for eligibility reviews the nominations.
- 3
Shortlist
The Sub-Committee chooses a shortlist of up to six nominees per category. The Sub-Committee will consider the following criteria, in the following order: (1) Results in international competition; (2) Results in local competition; (3) Contributions outside of the game. The shortlists are made public.
- 4
The Judges
An expert panel of independent judges is chosen from amongst the local and/or international community. The panel is vetted meticulously both for knowledge of the award category, as well as impartiality. The identity of the judges is kept secret to protect them from undue influence. The judges meet, and secretly vote for their preferred candidates. Each judge chooses a 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice, attributing points to each of those nominees. The nominee with most points, wins!
- 5

Winners are revealed live on stage, and the ceremony is streamed on our Twitch/Youtube channel for everyone who cannot join us in person.
